The PSC-MOAA will be hosting their annual Leadership and Scholarship Awards luncheon on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Heritage Palms Country Club at 11:30 am. The awards will be going to two Coachella Valley high schools that have JROTC programs: La Quinta High School and Desert Hot Springs High School.
Over the years, the PSC-MOAA has given out more than $150,000 worth of scholarships to Coachella Valley high school JROTC student leaders. This year, there will be five scholarships of $2,500 each. This is the most scholarships and a larger amount in the history of the organization. The scholarships are:
- Hunter Lopez Scholarship - $2,500
- John and Celeste Schleimer Scholarship - $2,500
- CW04 Robert Ramirez Scholarship - $2,500
- Ann Dawson Scholarship - $2,500
- Colonel Jack and Doris Samson Scholarship - $2,500
Two leadership awards will go to one Junior from each of the participating high schools.
Special participation will include the presentation of the Colors from DHSHS USMC JROTC. The La Quinta High School USAF JROTC will be presenting the Missing Man Table Ceremony. This is a very visual, solemn and dignified observance of POW/MIA and those left behind in a foreign land. A very emotional and impressive event.
There will be dignitaries and VIP’s attending to include Mayor Linda Evans, and parents of Hunter Lopez, Herman and Alicia Lopez. Also, La Quinta High School principal Greg O’Mara and Desert Hot Springs High School principal Omar Tinoco and others.
“The Palm Springs Chapter of MOAA believes in supporting tomorrrow’s military leaders through scholarships. Our members had several fundraisers and worked hard to raise the needed funds to help these young people reach their goals in life whether it be through education or joining the armed forces. We have a very special relationship with these
students and we are so very proud to be a small part of their successes.” responded MAJ (ret) Terrie Heer, Chapter president.
The public is invited to attend. Contact LTC (ret) Alan Tibbetts at
