Robert P. Bacon, Commander, U.S. Navy (Ret.) Commander Bacon was commission in October 1964. He served on three destroyer ships, USS John S. McCain (DL-3), USS Duncan (DDR-874) and USS Theodore E. Chandler (DD-717) and a service force (i.e. logistics) ship, USS White Plains (AFS-4), all in support of the war in Vietnam. He also served a year in-country in Vietnam where he served as Commander River Assault Division 151, a division of 24 river assault craft. After Vietnam, Commander Bacon was assigned to the Military Assistance Group, Republic of China (i.e. Taiwan). He also attended the Naval War College and graduated from the Command and Staff course. He served as executive officer of an amphibious warfare ship, USS Ogden (LPD-5) and was on the first staff of the US Naval Forces Central Command. He retired from the Navy at the end of 1986. Commander Bacon then attended Loyola Law School and graduated in 1993. He served as a research attorney at the Kern County Superior Court in Bakersfield, California for 16 years. He retired again in 2012. Commander Bacon and his wife, Su Ching, are now enjoying life in the desert.
